  • 2 cups refried beans you can use canned or homemade

  • 2 ripe avocados sliced
  • 2-3 ripe tomatoes diced
  • 1 small white onion finely chopped
  • 1 cup cooked and diced Honduran-style sausage optional

Elaboración paso a paso

  • For the Tortillas:
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  • Gradually add the warm water and vegetable oil while stirring to form a dough.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.
  • Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and roll each portion into a ball.
  • Roll out each ball into a thin, round tortilla, about 8 inches in diameter.
  • Heat a dry skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  • Cook each tortilla for about 1-2 minutes on each side until they puff up slightly and have brown spots. Keep them warm in a clean kitchen towel or tortilla warmer.
  • For the Filling:
  • Spread a generous spoonful of refried beans onto each tortilla, leaving some space around the edges.
  • Add slices of avocado, diced tomatoes, chopped onion, crumbled queso fresco, and cooked sausage if using.
  • Drizzle with sour cream or crema.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • If you like it spicy, add a few drops of hot sauce or salsa.
  • To Serve:
  • Fold the tortillas in half, covering the filling, to create a semi-circular shape.
  • Serve your baleadas warm, and you can also wrap them in foil or parchment paper for easy handling.
  • Enjoy your homemade baleadas! Feel free to customize the fillings to your liking. They are a versatile and delicious dish
